You want to generate traffic for your business with high-quality content. You aspire to create different types of content but find all of your time taken up by writing blog posts. Is this you? If the answer is yes, I’m going to let you in on a secret that will attract more users and save you time and money. Alright, here it is:

Repurpose Your Content.

What Does This Mean?

Repurposing your content is when you convert your work into different forms of media.  Think of your content as recycling – Why create a brand-new blog post when you can reuse an old post over and over again?  For example, you could convert your article into a how-to video, presentation, and podcast. That’s three different mediums and audiences using the same content.

How Will Repurposing Your Blog Posts Help Your Business?

1. You Will Reach Out to Different Audiences

There are many ways to digest content. Some enjoy reading an in-depth article while others prefer a simple infographic. The best way to diversify your audience is to produce content for different mediums. This will attract users from across the board.  Reformat your work for different audiences and watch your conversion rate rise.

2. You Will Highlight Different Parts of Your Content

A quality blog post contains detailed knowledge on a topic. You can take that information apart and create different forms of content. For example, if you write a post about email marketing and how it converts users into customers, you can use that information to make a video that provides the steps to create an email marketing campaign. This way, each form of content provides different perspectives while using the same information. Highlighting different parts of your content will bring more value to your work.

3. You Will Optimize Your Time

The best part about repurposing your content is how much time it saves you. You are able to optimize your content by using different mediums in a shorter amount of time than it would take you to create different blog posts. This will give you extra space in your calendar to work on other aspects of your business. Cheers to that!

How Can I Start Repurposing My Blog Posts?

You know the benefits of repurposing and want to get started right away. Here’s how:

Look Through Old Posts

Take some time and look back at your blog. Which posts were the most popular? What type of content does your audience like best? You can use WordPress plugins like JetPack to analyze the traffic of your posts and answer these questions.

Do Any of Your Posts Have Information That Can Be Updated?

Maybe you wrote an article on improving SEO a year ago. That post most likely needs an update with the current SEO trends. Take that new information and repurpose your content into a new post.

So, I Can Repurpose Blog Posts into More Blog Posts?

If you find information in an old post that needs to be updated, you can make it current with a new post. However, make sure that your updated post looks new. You can do this by:

  1. Reformatting the outline of your content

  2. Creating new call to actions

  3. Replacing old images

  4. Updating your links

Will People Notice That I’m Reusing My Content?

If you’re being creative about repurposing your content, people most likely won’t notice. Another thing to remember is that repurposing content only adds more value to your business. Creating new ways to teach your readers about a topic makes your business useful for them.

How Can I Reuse My Content Right Now?

It can be overwhelming to begin a new writing process like repurposing, so here are 3 ways to start reusing your content today:

1. Create an Infographic

Does your post have interesting statistics? Create an infographic that pinpoints your research. Infographics are a quick way to catch your audience’s attention. They also help readers understand heavy content.

How Do I Start?

Websites such as Canva offer infographic templates to get started. Plugin your stats and research into the template and you’re done! Simple as that. If you want an infographic that identifies deeply with your brand, connect with the creative visionary herself, Belinda.

2. Make a Video

Does your post give readers steps to achieving X? Create a how-to video on YouTube. Video marketing is only becoming more popular, it’s a great way to grow your audience. Some find it intimidating to create videos because of the editing and special effects. If this is you, focus on the value of your video. Special effects are cool, but they aren’t what your audience is looking for. Your audience wants information that helps them take action with their business. Tip: If you are creating a how-to video for something that can be done on the computer, you can record your screen and avoid special effects altogether. This cuts to the point and avoids fancy effects.

How Do I Start?

Use your old blog post to write a script or outline of what you want to say. You can use your natural language since you will be talking out loud. If you want to be in your video, find a place with good lighting and a clean background. When you finish recording, edit your video to your ability and upload it to YouTube.

3. Tweet the Highlights

Is your post optimized to catch your reader’s attention? Convert those note-worthy moments into a tweet. Twitter is the hub for interacting with fellow professionals. Make yourself known to them by tweeting your content.

How Do I Start?

Take the most eye-catching part of your blog post and form it into a simple and direct tweet that contains a link to your article. Make sure that it is below 280 characters.

Here’s an example of how to shrink your content using Pew Research Center’s article, “Who doesn’t read books in America?”

“Roughly a quarter of U.S. adults (27%) say they haven’t read a book in whole or in part in the past year, whether in print, electronic or audio form, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted Jan. 8 to Feb. 7. Who are these non-book readers?”

Twitter post: “New research shows that 27% of U.S adults haven’t read an entire book in the past year. Who are these non-book readers, anyway? Read it here: https://cutt.ly/arR5RAy

The twitter post kept the shocking statistic and ended with a question and link that will lead readers to their site. Short and sweet.
